The Ainu or the Aynu (Ainu アィヌ Aynu; Japanese: Ainu; Russian: Ajny), and in historical Japanese texts Ezo/Emishi/Ebisu or Ainu are an indigenous people of Japan (Hokkaido, and formerly northeastern Honshu) and Russia (Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands).
