The demography of France is monitored by the Institut national d'études démographiques (INED) and the Institut National de la Statistique et des Études Économiques (INSEE). On the 1 January 2016, 67,286,000 people lived in the French Republic, including all the overseas departments and territories (DOM,TOM). 66,628,000[1]of these lived in Metropolitan France and all the five overseas department and Mayotte, the rest of the overseas territories counted 658,000 inhabitant.
