(23 November 1878 – 7 November 1941) was a British transport administrator. After qualifying as a solicitor in 1902, he worked at the
North Eastern Railway
, before moving to the
Underground Electric Railways Company of London
(UERL) in 1906. At the UERL he rose through the corporate ranks, becoming joint assistant managing director in 1921 and
managing director
in 1928. He was
chief executive officer
and vice-chairman of the
London Passenger Transport Board
from its creation in 1933 until 1940.
