Eastern Front (World War II)
The Eastern Front of World War II was a theatre of conflict between the European Axis powers and co-belligerent Finland against the Soviet UnionPoland and other allies, which encompassed NorthernSouthern and Central and Eastern Europe from 22 June 1941 to 9 May 1945. It has been known as the Great Patriotic War (, Velikaya Otechestvennaya Voyna) in the former Soviet Union and in modern Russia, while in Germany it was called the Eastern Front , the Eastern Campaign (der Ostfeldzug) or the Russian Campaign (der Rußlandfeldzug).

Great Patriotic War (term)
The term Great Patriotic War (, Velíkaya Otéchestvennaya voyná) is used in Russia and other former republics of the Soviet Union (except for the ones who later joined NATO) to describe the conflict fought during the period from 22 June 1941 to 9 May 1945 along the many fronts of the Eastern Front of World War II between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany and its allies.
