, it is the largest man-made
lake
in North Dakota and the third largest in the United States, after
Lake Mead

Lake Powell
. The lake lies in parts of six counties in western North Dakota:
Dunn

McKenzie
,
McLean
,
Mercer

Mountrail
, and
Williams
