Patriarch of Alexandria is the
archbishop of
Alexandria and
Cairo,
Egypt. Historically, this office has included the designation
pope (etymologically "Father", like "Abbot"). The first bishop known to be called "
Pope" was the thirteenth Patriarch of Alexandria, Papas
Heraclas.
