The Rochester, New York metropolitan area—the "Rochester, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area" (MSA) as defined by the United States Census Bureau—is an area consisting of six counties in  Western New York, anchored by the city of Rochester. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 1,054,323.
