Wharton's jelly

) is a gelatinous substance within the
umbilical cord
also present in
vitreous humor
of the eyeball, largely made up of
mucopolysaccharides
(
hyaluronic acid
and
chondroitin sulfate
). It also contains some
fibroblasts
and
macrophages
. It is derived from extra-embryonic
mesoderm
.
