Eta (uppercase , lowercase ; or ) is the seventh letter of the Greek alphabet. Originally denoting  a consonant /h/, its sound value in the classical Attic dialect of Ancient Greek was a long vowel , raised to in medieval Greek, a process known as iotacism.
