pulvinus (pl.
pulvini) is a
joint-like thickening at the base of a plant
leaf or leaflet that facilitates growth-independent (
nyctinastic and
thigmonastic) movement. Pulvini are common in members of the bean family
Fabaceae (Leguminosae) and the prayer plant family
Marantaceae.
