Aarhus Municipality (Danish: Aarhus Kommune, also commonly known by its alternative Danish spelling Århus Kommune, Århus Municipality), is a municipality in the Central Region, on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of (www.noegletal.dk], and has a population of 326,246 (January 1, 2015) ("statistikbanken.dk befolkning og valg"]. The current Mayor of Aarhus municipality is Jacob Bundsgaard of the Social Democrats, who took over after Nicolai Wammen in August 2011. Wammen wanted to focus on the upcoming election for Parliament.
