Alexander (, ) is a common male first name, and less common surname derived from the Greek "Αλέξανδρος" (Aléxandros). The most famous is Alexander the Great, who created one of the largest empires in ancient history.

Alexander
Alexander ist ein männlicher Vorname, die altgriechische Form lautet Aléxandros. Der Name bedeutet so viel wie „der die (fremden) Männer abwehrt“ oder „Beschützer“. Der früheste Beleg ist der Priamos-Sohn in der homerischen Ilias, der heute eher als Paris bekannt ist und möglicherweise seinen Namen von dem König Alaksandu von Wilusa erhalten hat. Der bedeutendste Namensträger ist sicherlich Alexander der Große. Zur weiblichen Form siehe Alexandra.
