Angio

Angiography or arteriography is a medical imaging technique used to visualize the inside, or lumen, of blood vessels and organs of the body, with particular interest in the arteries, veins, and the heart chambers. This is traditionally done by injecting a radio-opaque contrast agent into the blood vessel and imaging using X-ray based techniques such as fluoroscopy.

Angiografie bzw. -graphie nennt man in der Medizin die Darstellung von Gefäßen, meist Blutgefäßen mittels diagnostischer Bildgebungsverfahren, beispielsweise Röntgen oder Magnetresonanztomografie (MRT). Hierzu wird häufig ein Kontrastmittel in das Blutgefäß injiziert. Auf dem Bild der aufgenommenen Körperregion zeichnet sich dann der mit dem Kontrastmittel gefüllte Gefäßinnenraum ab. Das resultierende Bild nennt man Angiogramm. Mit der MRT sind auch Angiografien ohne Kontrastmittel möglich, wodurch man sich die invasive Punktion des Gefäßes erspart. Jedoch können nicht alle Fragestellungen mit der MRT-Angiographie zufriedenstellend beantwortet werden.
