aRts, qui signifie
analog Real time synthesizer (synthétiseur analogique en temps réel), est une
application libre qui simule un synthétiseur analogique sous
KDE/
Linux. L'un des composants essentiels d'aRts est le
serveur de sons qui mixe plusieurs
flux sonores en
temps réel. Le serveur de sons, qui s'appelle aRtsd (d comme
démon) est également utilisé comme le serveur de sons standard pour KDE (toutefois il est indépendant de KDE et peut donc être réutilisé dans d'autres projets). Il s'agit d'un compétiteur direct à
JACK Audio Connection Kit, un autre serveur de sons en temps réel.
