Bayan Lepas (In Chinese, "峇六拜", "
ba ler pai" in
Penang Hokkien) is a district capital in South West
Penang Island,
Malaysia being home to the
Penang International Airport. It has a population of about 141,000 people. Bayan Lepas is the main industrial hub of Penang, being home to the Free Industrial Zone, where factories of many multinational companies are located especially
semiconductor industry.
Penang International Airport also located at Bayan Lepas. Nowadays, the Greater Bayan Lepas has built majority of the condominiums and apartments when travelling on Penang Bridges. Penang's shopping mall, Queensbay Mall, the Bukit Jambul Complex and
Giant Hypermarket are located there. Bayan Lepas is connected to Georgetown via the
Bayan Lepas Expressway or known as Lim Chong Eu Expressway. There are some tourist spots including the
Snake Temple, War Museum, and the Fisheries Department Aquarium. Many new condominiums, housing estates are all currently under construction in this area.
