A candidate, or nominee, is the prospective recipient of an award or honor, or a person seeking or being considered for some kind of position; for example:
- to be elected to an office — in this case a candidate selection procedure occurs.
- to receive membership in a group

نامزد انتخاباتي
واژه کانديدا، کانديد از زبان فرانسه وام گرفته شده است. اين واژه در اصل از زبان لاتين آمده و به معني سپيد پوش است. کانديدا يا نامزد انتخاباتي به کسي گفته مي‌شود که در جريان يک انتخابات خود را در معرض رأي مستقيم مردم قرار مي‌دهد. به عبارت ديگر به کساني که خود را نامزد تصدي مسئوليتي مشخص قرار مي‌دهند، تا مردم شايسته ترين آنها را برگزينند، کانديدا گفته مي‌شود.
