Championship

In sport, a championship is a competition in which the aim is to decide which individual or team is the champion.

A champion (from the late Latin campio) is the victor in a , contest or competition. There can be a territorial pyramid of championships, e.g. local, regional / provincial, state, national, continental and world championships, and even further (artificial) divisions at one or more of these levels, as in soccer. Their champions can be accordingly styled, e.g. national champion, world champion.

Die Championship ist die zweithöchste englische Rugby-League-Liga. Sie wurde zur ersten Super-League-Saison eingeführt und besteht aus zwölf Mannschaften. Championship heißt sie seit 2009, davor hieß sie Division One, Premiership und National League One. Das Format schwankte seit der Gründung sehr stark, zurzeit wird das sogenannte Super-8-System angewandt. Dabei steigen die letzten zwei Mannschaften ab, während für maximal 4 Mannschaften die Möglichkeit des Aufstiegs besteht. Es ist aber auch möglich, dass keine einzige Mannschaft aufsteigt.

Im Sport ist eine Meisterschaft ein sportlicher Wettbewerb, in dem die besten Teilnehmer einer bestimmten Disziplin ermittelt werden.

Le Championship est le nom de deux compétitions sportives :

• Le Football League Championship, championnat de deuxième division de football en Angleterre ;
• Le Co-operative Championship, championnat de rugby à XIII en Angleterre qui accueille aussi le Toulouse Olympique depuis 2009.
• Le Rugby Football League Championship, principal championnat d'Angleterre de rugby à XIII se déroulant de 1895 à 1995.

Un championnat est une manifestation, souvent sportive, qui vise à élire en éliminant tour par tour ou en cumulant les points à chaque match, un champion, celui-ci pouvant être une équipe ou un individu.
