New South Wales was a colony of the
British Empire from 1788 to 1901. In the earlier part of the period, the
colony of New South Wales was much larger than the present-day state of
New South Wales, as it included what would become the separate British colonies of Queensland,
Victoria,
Tasmania, South Australia, and
New Zealand.
