Convex

Convex means curving out or extending outward (compare concave).
Convex or convexity may refer to:

• Convex set, a set of points containing all line segments between each pair of its points
• Convex function, a function whose epigraph forms a convex set
• Convex polytope, a polytope that forms a convex set
• Convex hull, the minimal convex set containing a set of points X
• Convex combination, a linear combination of points with non-negative coefficients that sum up to 1
• Convex conjugate, a generalization of the Legendre transformation
• Convex bipartite graph
• Convex polygon
• Convex plane graph, a plane graph with convex faces
• Convex optimization, a subfield of optimization, studies the problem of minimizing convex functions
• Convex geometry, the branch of geometry studying convex sets, mainly in Euclidean space
  • Convex curve, the boundary of a convex set
  • Convex body, a compact convex set with non-empty interior

Convex is een ander woord voor bol (het tegengestelde van hol of concaaf).

Konvex, motsatsen till konkav, är ett begrepp som förekommer inom många områden:

• En konvex lins är tjockare i centrum än i periferin, och kan användas som förstoringsglas.
• En konvex spegel  buktar ut mot betraktaren och vidgar synfältet.
• Ett konvext område är i geometrin ett område där alla par av punkter kan sammanbindas med en rät linje sådan att linjen tillhör området.
• En konvex funktion är ett begrepp inom den matematiska analysen.

En l'espai euclidià, un objecte és convex si per a tots els parells de punts dins de l'objecte, tots els punts del segment recte que els uneix també estan dins de l'objecte. Per exemple, un cub sòlid és convex, en canvi un conjunt amb un espai buit interior o que té un bony no ho és, per exemple, una forma de mitja lluna, no és convexa.
