ECHELON

ECHELON originally a code-name, is now used in global media and in popular culture to describe a signals intelligence (SIGINT) collection and analysis network operated on behalf of the five signatory nations to the UKUSA Security Agreement—Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, also known as the Five Eyes.

Echelon may refer to:

• A level or rank in an organization, profession, or society
• Echelon formation, a military hierarchical formation, also used to describe the migratory patterns of birds
• ECHELON, a worldwide electronic intelligence-gathering operation, within the UKUSA Agreement, mainly for industry espionage
• Echelon parking, a way of arranging parked cars
