Reibung, auch als
Friktion bezeichnet, ist die Hemmung einer
Bewegung, die zwischen sich berührenden
Festkörpern oder
Teilchen auftritt. Man unterscheidet zwischen
äußerer Reibung zwischen sich berührenden Grenzflächen von Festkörpern und
innerer Reibung zwischen benachbarten Teilchen bei der Verformung von
Fluiden und Festkörpern. In physikalischen Modellen werden Reibungskräfte oft vernachlässigt, wenn sie relativ klein und/oder quantitativ schwer erfassbar sind. Im Hinblick auf den bei der Reibung auftretenden Energie
verlust (ihre Umwandlung in
Wärme unter Zunahme der
Entropie) spricht man von
Dissipation, insbesondere im Fall von kinetischer Energie, aber auch verallgemeinernd bei nicht-mechanischen Prozessen.
