IMAX

IMAX (an acronym for Image MAXimum) is a motion picture film format and a set of cinema projection standards created by Canadian company IMAX Corporation and developed by Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, Robert Kerr, and William C. Shaw. IMAX has the capacity to record and display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film systems. Since 2002, some feature films have been converted (or upgraded) into IMAX format for displaying in IMAX theatres and some have also been partially shot in IMAX.

IMAX ist ein von dem gleichnamigen kanadischen Unternehmen IMAX Corporation entwickeltes Kino-System. Es beruht mit 70-mm-Film auf dem breitesten genormten Filmformat bei gleichzeitig größtem üblichen Bildformat auf dem horizontal geführten Film. Die sich daraus ergebende hohe Auflösung ermöglicht helle und scharfe Projektionen auf besonders großen Leinwandflächen, die das Blickfeld des Zuschauers nahezu vollständig ausfüllen. Dadurch tritt der Vektions-Effekt auf, die Zuschauer sollen sich fühlen, als befänden sie sich selbst im Filmgeschehen.

IMAX (acrónimo en inglés de Image, imagen, y MAXimum, máximo) es un formato de cinta de video y un estándar de proyección cinematográfica creado por la compañía canadiense IMAX Corporation y desarrollado por Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, Robert Kerr, y William C. Shaw. IMAX tiene la capacidad de grabar y mostrar imágenes de mucho más tamaño y resolución que los sistemas de películas fotográficas convencionales. Desde el 2002, algunas películas han sido convertidas, o mejoradas, a formato IMAX para ser mostradas en salas de cines preparadas a tal efecto, así como muchas desde entonces han sido filmadas en ese formato.

IMAX is een filmformaat dat is ontworpen door de IMAX Corporation. Films kunnen op een veel groter scherm worden weergegeven dan op normale filmschermen. Door de hoge resolutie is het beeld toch nog scherp. Een standaard IMAX-scherm is 22 meter breed en 16 meter hoog, maar kan ook groter zijn. Films zijn vaak digitaal, en anders een 70 mm film.
