Iceland

Iceland (; ), also called the Republic of Iceland, is a Nordic island country between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. It has a population of and an area of , making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The capital and largest city is Reykjavík. Reykjavík and the surrounding areas in the southwest of the country are home to over two-thirds of the population. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate, despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle. Its high latitude and marine influence still keeps summers chilly, with most of the archipelago having a tundra climate.

Die Hauptinsel ist die größte Vulkaninsel der Erde und befindet sich knapp südlich des nördlichen Polarkreises. Island ist Mitglied der EFTA, des Europäischen Wirtschaftsraums und Gründungsmitglied der NATO.

Islandia (en islandés: Ísland; AFI: ['islant]) es un país localizado en el extremo noroeste de Europa, cuyo territorio abarca la isla homónima y algunas pequeñas islas e islotes adyacentes en el océano Atlántico, entre el resto de Europa y Groenlandia. Cuenta con una población de cerca de 331 000 habitantes y un área de 103 000 km². A causa de su localización en la dorsal mesoatlántica, es un país con gran actividad volcánica y geológica; este factor afecta en gran medida al paisaje del territorio islandés. El interior del país consiste en una meseta caracterizada por desiertos, montañas, glaciares y ríos glaciales que fluyen hacia el mar a través de las tierras bajas. Gracias a los efectos de la corriente del Golfo, tiene un clima templado en relación a su latitud y provee un entorno habitable.

IJsland (IJslands: Ísland) is een eilandstaat ten noordwesten van het Europese vasteland. IJsland wordt omringd door de Atlantische Oceaan in het zuiden, de Straat van Denemarken (tussen IJsland en Groenland) in het westen en de Groenlandzee, een deel van de Noordelijke IJszee, in het noorden. Het noordoosten van het land ligt net onder de poolcirkel. Deze loopt precies over het kleine eiland Grímsey, dat tot IJsland behoort. IJsland had een bevolkingsaantal van 328.452 per 1 januari 2011 en een oppervlakte van . Daarmee is IJsland het dunstbevolkte land van Europa. De hoofdstad Reykjavik ligt aan de zuidwestkust op 64°08' noorderbreedte en is daarmee 's werelds meest noordelijke hoofdstad. IJsland zelf is het meest westelijk gelegen land van Europa.

LIslande (en islandais , , littéralement « terre de glace »), en forme longue la République d'Islande , est un État insulaire de l'océan Atlantique Nord, situé entre le Groenland et la Norvège, au nord-ouest des îles Féroé. Elle se trouve sur la dorsale médio-atlantique séparant les plaques tectoniques eurasienne et nord-américaine et compte ainsi de nombreux volcans. Géographiquement plus proche du continent américain via le Groenland, le pays est rattaché culturellement et historiquement à l'Europe. Il a une superficie de et une population d'environ ; sa densité est la plus faible d'Europe (188 rang mondial). Sa capitale, et plus grande ville, est Reykjavik. La langue nationale, l'islandais, est parlée par la quasi-totalité des habitants et a le statut de langue officielle depuis juin 2011.
