The journal was started by Jan Willem de Jong and Franciscus Bernardus Jacobus Kuiper in 1957 with Ludwig Alsdorf, Harold Walter BaileyLouis RenouSumitra Mangesh Katre and Daniel H. H. Ingalls on its Editorial Board.
