The
Joplin-Miami, MO-OK MSA, as defined by the
United States Census Bureau, is an area now consisting of three counties,
Jasper and
Newton counties in southwest
Missouri, and
Ottawa County, OK in extreme northeast
Oklahoma, all anchored by the city of
Joplin. The addition of
Ottawa County was officially added to the Joplin Metropolitan area in April 2013. As of the
2010 census it had a population of 175,518, though as of the 2014 estimates, the population is 208,246.
