Naissus

Niš (, ) is the city of southern Serbia and the third-largest city in Serbia (after Belgrade and Novi Sad). It is the administrative center of the Nišava District. According to the 2011 census, the city has population of 183,164, while urban area of Niš (with adjacent urban settlement of Niška Banja included) has 187,544 inhabitants, administrative area has population of 260,237.

Niš ist Industrie- und Handelsstadt und Sitz eines orthodoxen Bischofs. In Niš befinden sich eine Universität und ein Symphonie-Orchester, Museen, Theater und verschiedene Kultureinrichtungen.

Niš (en serbio, Ниш, del latín Naissus, a veces transliterado como Nish) es la tercera ciudad más grande de Serbia. Está situada sobre el río Nišava, en las coordenadas geográficas 43,3° N y 21,9° E. Según el censo de 2001 el área urbana tiene una población de 192 208 habitantes y 260 237en su área metropolitana. La ciudad cubre un área de unos 597 kilómetros cuadrados, incluyendo la ciudad de Niš, las termas Niška Banja y 68 suburbios más. Cuenta con el Aeropuerto Constantino el Grande (en honor al emperador Constantino, nacido en la ciudad), un aeropuerto internacional con código de destino INI.

Niš (Servisch: Ниш; Grieks: Ναισσος, Naissòs) is de op twee na grootste stad van Servië. De stad telt 260.237 inwoners (2011) en ligt ongeveer 250 km ten zuidoosten van Belgrado aan de Nišava op 192m boven zeeniveau. Niš is een industrie-, universiteits- en handelsstad en heeft een historisch strategische ligging in de regio. Niš beschikt over een vliegveld met internationale verbindingen, dat genoemd is naar Constantijn de Grote, die in het Romeinse Niš werd geboren.
