National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA, pronounced "NITS-uh") is an agency of the Executive Branch of the
U.S. government, part of the
Department of Transportation. It describes its mission as "Save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes."
