Qizil Üzan which means Red River In Turkish and Azerbaijani languages is a river that flows from a region near Divan Darreh in Kordestan Province in Iran and runs northeastwards to Zanjan and Tarom counties in Zanjan Province, and then to Rudbar in Gilan Province where it joins the Shah Rud River to form the Sefidrud (meaning White River in Persian). Finally the Sefidrud flows north to the Caspian Sea. But sometimes the Qizil Üzan and the Sefidrud are considered as one river and the words "Qizil Üzan" and "Sefidrud" are used synonymously for the entire river that flows from Kordestan Province to the Caspian Sea.
