Quercus

An oak is a tree or shrub in the genus Quercus (; Latin "oak tree") of the beech family, Fagaceae. There are approximately 600 extant species of oaks. The common name "oak" may also appear in the names of species in related genera, notably Lithocarpus. The genus is native to the Northern Hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cool temperate to tropical latitudes in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. North America contains the largest number of oak species, with approximately 90 occurring in the United States. Mexico has 160 species, of which 109 are endemic. The second greatest center of oak diversity is China, which contains approximately 100 species.

Oakland International Airport is five miles south of downtown Oakland, in Alameda County, California. It is owned by the Port of Oakland. Quercus (del latín quercus, que designaba igualmente al roble, a la encina y al alcornoque) es un género de árboles perteneciente a la familia de las fagáceas.

Eik (Quercus) is een geslacht van loofbomen. Tot dit geslacht behoren zowel bladverliezende als altijd groenblijvende bomen. Wanneer in het Nederlands over de eik gesproken wordt, gaat het meestal over de zomereik. Eikenhout wordt voor verschillende doeleinden gebruikt. In het algemeen is eikenhout sterk en hard, maar toch redelijk makkelijk te bewerken en af te werken.

Chêne est le nom de nombreuses espèces d'arbres et d'arbustes appartenant au genre Quercus, et à certains genres apparentés de la famille des fagacées, notamment Cyclobalanopsis et Lithocarpus.
Ce genre, présent dans tout l'hémisphère nord et dont l'aire de répartition s'étend depuis les froides latitudes jusqu'aux zones tropicales de l'Asie et des Amériques, comprend à la fois des espèces à feuilles caduques et d'autres à feuilles persistantes.
