who is largely remembered now for championing a
Pre-NeoDarwinian Synthesis
view of
evolution
, whereby mutation(s) could unlock presumed "genetic drives" that, over time, would lead populations to increasingly extreme
phenotypes
(and perhaps, ultimately, to extinction).
