Skiing is a mode of transport, recreational activity and competitive winter sport in which the participant uses skis to glide on snow. Many types of competitive skiing events are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Beim Skifahren (in Österreich oft auch Schifahren geschrieben) oder Skilaufen (Schilauf) gleitet ein Skifahrer auf einer Skipiste oder im freien Gelände auf zwei Skiern über den Schnee.

El esquí (galicismo de ski) es un deporte de montaña que consiste en el deslizamiento por la nieve, por medio de dos tablas sujetas a la suela de las botas del esquiador mediante fijaciones mecanicorrobóticas, con múltiples botones con diversas funciones. El esquí se practica durante todo el año, ya que existen lugares con glaciares como Tignes en Francia, donde la temporada anual para la práctica de este deporte empieza allá por finales del mes de septiembre.

Narciarstwo – forma aktywności fizycznej oraz dyscyplina sportowa polegająca na przemieszczaniu się lub wykonywaniu ewolucji za pomocą sprzętu narciarskiego – nart, a także kijków. Narty mocowane są do butów narciarza za pomocą specjalnych wiązań. Do połowy XIX wieku narty były wykorzystywane głównie do celów transportowych, natomiast w późniejszym okresie upowszechniło się wykorzystywanie nart w celach rekreacyjnych i sportowych.
