Zoroastrian

Zoroastrianism is one of the world's oldest religions, "combining a cosmogonic dualism and eschatological monotheism in a manner unique... among the major religions of the world." It was founded by the Prophet Zoroaster (or Zarathustra) in ancient Iran approximately 3500 years ago. It was the official religion of Persia (Iran) from 600 BCE to 650 CE. Originating with Iranian tribes living in Central Asia in the second millennium BCE, Zoroastrianism was the official religion of the Iranian empires until Islam superseded it in the seventh century AD. Ascribed to the teachings of the prophet Zoroaster, its Supreme Being is Ahura Mazda. Leading characteristics, such as messianism, the Golden Rule, heaven and hell, and free will influenced other religious systems, including Second Temple Judaism, Gnosticism, Christianity, and Islam. For a thousand years, forms of Zoroastrianism (including a Mithraic Median prototype and Zurvanist Sassanid successor) was one of the world's most important faith traditions, serving as the state religion of the pre-Islamic Iranian empires from around 600 BCE to 650 CE. Zoroastrianism was suppressed from the 7th century onwards following the Muslim conquest of Persia. Recent estimates place the current number of Zoroastrians at around 2.6 million, with most living in India and Iran. Besides the Zoroastrian diaspora, older Mithraic faith like Yazdanism is still practised amongst the Kurds.

Der Zoroastrismus bzw. Zarathustrismus (auch: Mazdaismus oder Parsismus) ist eine wohl zwischen 1800 v. Chr. und 600 v. Chr. vermutlich in Baktrien im östlichen Iranischen Hochland, dem heutigen Afghanistan, entstandene Religion mit heute etwa 120.000–150.000 Anhängern, die in Persien und im zentralasiatischen Raum verbreitet war. Die Anhänger des Zoroastrismus werden Zoroastrier oder Zarathustrier genannt. Größere Gemeinden leben in Indien, den USA und im Iran. Die Anhängerschaft im heutigen Indien und Pakistan bezeichnet man auch als Parsen.

Het zoroastrisme of mazdeïsme is een religie die oorspronkelijk afkomstig was uit Perzië. Tegenwoordig vormen zoroastriërs een kleine minderheid in Iran (Perzië) en ook in Azerbeidzjan, India, Koerdische gebieden van Irak en Pakistan. Volgens schattingen zijn er wereldwijd 2,6 miljoen zoroastriërs. De stichter van het zoroastrisme is de mythische profeet Zarathustra of Zoroaster, die ergens rond de 10e eeuw v.Chr. moet hebben geleefd in het oosten van het tegenwoordige Iran of Afghanistan. Zijn leer is samengevat in het heilige boek van het zoroastrisme, de Avesta. Deze leer wordt gekarakteriseerd door een sterk dualisme tussen goed en kwaad. De mens is ingeklemd tussen twee tegengestelde machten: Ahoera Mazda (Verlichtende Wijsheid) en Angra Mainyu (Destructieve Geest), en dient in de eeuwige strijd tussen beide de kant van het goede te kiezen. Deze ethische keuze wordt samengevat in drie pijlers: goede woorden, goede daden en goede gedachten.

Le zoroastrisme est une religion (non-biblique) mais monothéiste où Ahura Mazdâ (pehlevi : Ohrmazd) est seul responsable de l'ordonnancement du chaos initial, le créateur du ciel et de la Terre. Le zoroastrisme est une réforme du mazdéisme, réforme prophétisée par Zarathoustra, dont le nom a été transcrit en Zoroastre par les Grecs (Ζωροάστρης, Zōroastrēs). Cette réforme est dite classiquement être intervenue au cours du mais les indices s'accumulent pour la faire remonter au millénaire précédent. D'après de russes, Zarathoustra est censé avoir prêché ses Gathas (chants sacrés), il y a plus de 3750 ans.
