Sensation is the fiction-writing mode for portraying a character's perception of the senses. According to Ron Rozelle, “. . .the success of your story or novel will depend on many things, but the most crucial is your ability to bring your reader into it. And that reader will be most completely in when you deliver the actual sensations of the many things that comprise your story” . As stated by  Jessica Page Morrell, “You breathe life into fiction by translating the senses onto the page, producing stories rooted in the physical world . . . that creates a tapestry, a galaxy of interwoven sensory ingredients.”

Ästhetik (von altgriechisch  aísthesis „Wahrnehmung“, „Empfindung“) war bis zum 19. Jahrhundert vor allem die Lehre von der wahrnehmbaren Schönheit, von Gesetzmäßigkeiten und Harmonie in der Natur und Kunst.

Esthetica is de leer van de zintuiglijke waarneming, in meer specifieke zin de tak van de filosofie die zich bezighoudt met schoonheid en kunst.

L'esthétique est une discipline de la philosophie ayant pour objet les perceptions, les sens, le beau (dans la nature ou l'art), ou exclusivement ce qui se rapporte au concept de l'art. L'esthétique correspond ainsi au domaine désigné jusqu'au par « science du beau » ou « critique du goût », et devient depuis le la philosophie de l'art. Elle se rapporte, par exemple, aux émotions provoquées par une œuvre d'art (ou certains gestes, attitudes, choses), aux jugements de l'œuvre, à ce qui est spécifique ou singulier à une expression (artistique, littéraire, poétique, etc.), à ce qui pourrait se définir comme beau par opposition à l'utile et au fonctionnel.
