anode

An anode is an electrode through which conventional current flows into a polarized electrical device. A common mnemonic is ACID for "anode current into device". The direction of (positive) electric current is opposite to the direction of electron flow: (negatively charged) electrons flow out the anode to the outside circuit.

Eine Anode (von griechisch  ánodos „Aufstieg“, wörtlich „Weg nach oben“) ist eine Elektrode, die beispielsweise aus einem Vakuum freie Elektronen aufnimmt oder aus einem Elektrolyten unter Elektronenaufnahme Anionen entlädt oder Kationen erzeugt, also Oxidationsreaktionen stattfinden lässt. Eine Anode entspricht somit einem Elektronenakzeptor bzw. verhält sich formal wie ein Oxidationsmittel.

Met een anode wordt de pool of elektrode bedoeld, waar de elektronen uitkomen. De tegengestelde pool wordt de kathode genoemd en is dus de pool of elektrode waar de elektronen ingaan.

L'anode d'un appareil passif parcouru par un courant continu est l'électrode où, en courant conventionnel, entre le courant (en courant électronique, électrode d'où sortent les électrons). Pour une résistance, c'est l'électrode reliée au pôle positif du générateur ; pour une pile électrique faisant office de générateur, c'est l'électrode négative.
