bandeau

A bandeau (pl. bandeaux, diminutive of meaning "strip") is a garment comprising, in appearance, a strip of cloth. Today, the term most frequently refers to a garment that wraps around a woman's breasts in sports or swimwear, and now it is accepted as the top part of formal wear with pants or a skirt. It is similar to a tube top, but narrower. It is usually strapless, sleeveless and off the shoulder. It is commonly made from elastic material to stop it from slipping down, or is tied or pinned at the back or front. In the first half of the 20th century, a "bandeau" referred to a headdress, in the form of headache bands or headbands, and also to a simple brassiere.

Der Büstenhalter (abgekürzt und umgangssprachlich BH, früher auch als Büha oder Brusthalter bezeichnet) ist ein Wäschestück, das die weibliche Brust stützen und formen soll.

Een bandeau (Frans voor 'band' of 'strook') is een kledingstuk bestaande uit een strook stof. In de vroege 20e eeuw sloeg de term voornamelijk op een soort haarband. Tegenwoordig verstaat men onder de term een type beha of bikinibovenstuk dat teruggaat op een kledingstuk dat Romeinse vrouwen tijdens het sporten en baden droegen.

Le bandeau, en architecture, est un élément saillant qui a deux sens, un ancien et un moderne :

• Ancien : moulures unies larges et peu saillantes se profilant en surface verticale ou horizontale, tout en suivant le contour d'une arcade (voir l'article « Bandeau de voûte de pont en maçonnerie »), d'une baie ou d'une porte fenêtre. Se dit également « bande » pour une moulure plate. Si ces moulures sont décorées de feuillages, elles portent le nom de cordon.
• Moderne : saillie horizontale continue longeant le nu d'une façade correspondant généralement au niveau des planchers bruts. Pour les bâtiments à ossature et bardages métalliques, le bandeau est une pièce rapportée en extrémité haute de la façade, le long de la ligne d'égout, afin de masquer le chéneau et l'élément rive de la toiture.
