The biological subfamily Bovinae includes a diverse group of 10 genera of medium to large-sized ungulates, including domestic cattle, bison, African buffalo, the water buffalo, the yak, and the four-horned and spiral-horned antelopes. The evolutionary relationship between the members of the group is obscure, and their classification into loose tribes rather than formal subgroups reflects this uncertainty. General characteristics include cloven hoofs and usually at least one of the sexes of a species having true horns. The largest extant bovine is the gaur.

Die Rinder (Bovini) sind eine Gattungsgruppe der Hornträger (Bovidae). Es sind große und stämmige Tiere, von denen einige Arten als Nutztiere eine wichtige Rolle spielen, allen voran das Hausrind. Einige Rinderarten werden auch „Büffel“ genannt, dies ist eine willkürliche Bezeichnung, die keine systematische Relevanz hat.

Les Bovinés, ou Bovinae, constituent une sous-famille des bovidés, mammifères ruminants, qui comprend plusieurs espèces importantes d'animaux d'élevage, en particulier le bos taurus, le gayal, le buffle, le zébu et le yack. Elle ne doit pas être confondue avec la famille des bovidés, qui comprend, outre la sous-famille des Bovinae, les caprins (dont les ovins) et les antilopes.
