Catolicismo (del griego
καθολικός,
katholikós, 'universal, que comprende todo') es un término que hace referencia a la principal rama actual del cristianismo, surgida tras el
Cisma de Oriente en 1054. Los
católicos son fieles a la
Iglesia católica, como así también a la
teología,
doctrina,
liturgia, principios éticos y normas de comportamiento derivadas, al igual que al conjunto de sus seguidores como un todo, a quienes se les denomina «católicos». El vocablo «catolicismo» se usa por lo general para hacer alusión a la experiencia religiosa compartida por las personas que viven en comunión con la Iglesia de Roma.
