coagulation

Coagulation (also known as clotting) is the process by which blood changes from a liquid to a gel, forming a clot. It potentially results in hemostasis, the cessation of blood loss from a damaged vessel, followed by repair. The mechanism of coagulation involves activation, adhesion, and aggregation of platelets along with deposition and maturation of fibrin. Disorders of coagulation are disease states which can result in bleeding (hemorrhage or bruising) or obstructive clotting (thrombosis).

Bloedstolling of coagulatie is het proces waardoor bloed dat aan de lucht of aan andere oppervlakken dan de binnenkant van het vaatstelsel wordt blootgesteld klontert en hard wordt. Het is één van de processen die bloedverlies bij verwondingen beperken (hemostase). Bloedstolling is een buitengewoon complex proces waarbij vooral de bloedplaatjes en een groot aantal eiwitten in het bloed, de zogenaamde stollingsfactoren, betrokken zijn. Falen van de bloedstolling leidt tot een verhoogde bloedingsneiging, terwijl het bij een verhoogde activiteit trombose kan veroorzaken.

La coagulation sanguine est un processus complexe aboutissant à la formation de caillots sanguins. C’est une partie importante de l’hémostase où la paroi endommagée d’un vaisseau sanguin est couverte d’un caillot de fibrine pour arrêter l’hémorragie. Les troubles de la coagulation qui mènent à des risques de saignements plus importants sont appelés hémophilie. D'autres troubles de la coagulation peuvent mener à un plus grand risque de thrombose.

Krzepnięcie krwi – naturalny, fizjologiczny proces zapobiegający utracie krwi w wyniku uszkodzeń naczyń krwionośnych. Istotą krzepnięcia krwi jest przejście rozpuszczonego w osoczu fibrynogenu w sieć przestrzenną skrzepu (fibryny) pod wpływem trombiny. Krzepnięcie krwi jest jednym z mechanizmów obronnych organizmu w wypadku przerwania ciągłości tkanek.
