coincidence

A coincidence is a remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances which have no apparent causal connection with each other. The perception of remarkable coincidences may lead to supernatural, occult, or paranormal claims. Or it may lead to belief in fatalism, which is a doctrine that events will happen in the exact manner of a predetermined plan.

Von Zufall spricht man dann, wenn für ein einzelnes Ereignis oder das Zusammentreffen mehrerer Ereignisse keine kausale Erklärung gegeben werden kann. Als kausale Erklärungen für Ereignisse kommen in erster Linie allgemeine Gesetzmäßigkeiten oder Absichten handelnder Personen in Frage. Die Erklärung für Zufall ist also gerade der Verzicht auf eine (kausale) Erklärung.

En informatique, l'opérateur logique ET inclusif appelé également Coïncidence (ou équivalence logique) ainsi que NON-OU exclusif peut se définir par la phrase suivante:
« La sortie est VRAI si et seulement si les deux entrées sont identiques »
On peut donc noter qu'il s'agit de la négation du OU exclusif souvent noté XNOR. On le nomme parfois (bien qu'abusivement) identité.

Koincydencja (fr. coincident, od śred. łac. im. czas. coincidere, od co-, „razem, współ-” i incidere, „upadać na”, od in- i cadere, „upadać”, być może spokr. z sanskr. śad-, „spaść”) – pojęcie zdefiniowane po raz pierwszy przez Arthura Schopenhauera w Űber den Willen in der Natur (Ponad wolą w naturze) w 1836 r. Określił ją jako „jednoczesne występowanie zdarzeń, które nie są związane ze sobą przyczynowo. Jednoczesne zdarzenia przebiegają w równoległych liniach. Jedno i to samo zdarzenie będące ogniwem w zupełnie różnych łańcuchach występuje ponadto w kilku innych, tak że los jednostki spotyka się nieuchronnie z losem innej. Każdy z nas jest głównym aktorem we własnym dramacie, równocześnie zaś gra jakąś rolę w innym, obcym mu dramacie”. Potocznie koincydencję rozumie się jako przypadek, zbieg okoliczności lub (nieoczekiwaną) zbieżność zdarzeń.
