Composing may refer to:

Komponist ( „zusammensetzen“; auch: Tonsetzer, Tondichter, Tonschöpfer) ist, wer musikalische Werke (Kompositionen) erschafft und an diesen Werken ausschließliches geistiges Eigentum besitzt. Veraltete Bezeichnungen sind auch Compositeur oder Kompositeur.

Een componist(e) of toondichter(es) is een persoon die muziek componeert. Dit wil zeggen dat hij/zij deze bedenkt, creëert en meestal opschrijft.

Un compositeur de musique (couramment dénommé compositeur) (du latin , supin signifiant « pour composer » du verbe ) est un musicien qui élabore de la musique. Beaucoup de compositeurs de musique sont également instrumentistes. La fonction du compositeur est donc d'organiser une succession de notes musicales seules ou groupées sous forme d'accords, en s'appuyant sur les règles d'une théorie musicale et en visant l'expression d'une entité, d'un évènement esthétique sonore comme un thème, une mélodie ou une ambiance.
