A curia, plural curiae, is an assembly, council, or court, in which public, official, or religious issues are discussed and decided. In ancient Rome, the populace was divided into 30 curiae, which met in order to confirm the election of magistrates, witness the installation of priests, the making of wills, and adoptions. Lesser curiae existed for other purposes. The word curia also came to denote the places of assembly, especially the senate. Similar institutions existed in other towns and cities of Italy. In medieval times, a king's council was often referred to as a curia. Today, the most famous curia is the Curia of the Roman Catholic Church which assists the Roman Pontiff in the hierarchical government of the Church.

The Corpus of Electronic Texts, or CELT, is an online database of contemporary and historical documents relating to Irish history and culture. As of September 20, 2012, CELT claimed to contain 1,306 documents, with a total of over 15.2 million words. In 1992, CELT originated from the ashes of an unsuccessful joint partnership between University College Cork (UCC/NUI) and the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) through a project named CURIA. According to CELT, the database "caters for academic scholars, teachers, students, and the general public, all over the world".

Una curia, en los tiempos de la Antigua Roma, era una subdivisión del pueblo, más o menos identificada con una tribu. Las tres tribus originales de Roma fueron: Ramnes, cuyo nombre deriva de Rómulo, Ticienses, que traen el suyo de Tito Tacio, y Luceres, de los cuales se ignora el origen y el por qué de su denominación. La primera tribu estaba formada por los latinos, la segunda por los sabinos y la última por los etruscos, pueblo de procedencia desconocida y que en principio dominó a los otros. Cada una de las tres tribus estaba formada por diez curias y cada una de éstas por determinado número de Gens.

De Curia Hostilia was het eerste Senaatsgebouw of curia van de stad Rome. Het gebouw stond op het Forum Romanum. Het werd gebouwd tijdens de regeerperiode van koning Tullus Hostilius in de 7de eeuw v.Chr. Hoewel enkele malen eerder hersteld, was het Lucius Cornelius Sulla die in 80 v.Chr. het gebouwd uitgebreid herstelde en vergrootte. Voor de curia lag het comitium, waar de volksvergaderingen werden gehouden.

De Curia Julia was het senaatsgebouw van het oude Rome, gebouwd op het Forum Romanum.

Dans la Rome antique, le mot curia, traduit en français par curie, désigne un groupe d'hommes, ou le lieu où ils se réunissent. Le terme désignait ainsi des subdivisions civiques à Rome à l'époque de la monarchie et dans les cités de droit latin. La Curie désigne le bâtiment où se réunissait le Sénat romain, bâtiment toujours visible sur le forum romain aujourd'hui.
