In geometry, a diameter of a circle is any straight line segment that passes through the center of the circle and whose endpoints lie on the circle. It can also be defined as the longest chord of the circle. Both definitions are also valid for the diameter of a sphere. The word "diameter" is derived from Greek διάμετρος (diametros), "diameter of a circle", from δια- (dia-), "across, through" + μέτρον (metron), "measure". It is often abbreviated DIA, dia, d, or ⌀.

Diameter is an authentication, authorization, and accounting protocol for computer networks. It evolved from and replaces the much less capable RADIUS protocol that preceded it.

Der Durchmesser (, diámetros) eines Kreises oder einer Kugel ist der größtmöglichen Abstand zweier Punkte der Kreislinie oder der Kugeloberflächenpunkte. Beim Kreis ist dies die längstmögliche Sehne. Der Durchmesser eines Rotationskörpers ist die längste Sehne senkrecht zur Rotationsachse des Körpers.

De diameter van een bol of cirkel is de lengte van de rechte lijn die kan worden getrokken tussen twee punten op de bol of de cirkel en door het middelpunt hiervan. Deze lengte is de grootst mogelijke afstand tussen twee punten op bol of cirkel. Afstanden die worden gemeten langs de cirkellijn of het boloppervlak worden omtrek genoemd. De diameter is een bijzondere vorm van een koorde van bol of cirkel, namelijk die met de grootste lengte. Het woord diameter is ontleend aan het Grieks διάμετρος (diametros), van δια- (dia-) = door + μέτρον (metron) = meten.

Pour indiquer qu'une valeur correspond au diamètre, en technique, la valeur (du diamètre) est précédée par un symbole « ⌀ » (U+2300) représentant un cercle barré.
