The drum is a member of the percussion group of musical instruments. In the Hornbostel-Sachs classification system, it is a membranophone. Drums consist of at least one membrane, called a drumhead or drum skin, that is stretched over a shell and struck, either directly with the player's hands, or with a drum stick, to produce sound. There is usually a resonance head on the underside of the drum, typically tuned to a slightly lower pitch than the top drumhead. Other techniques have been used to cause drums to make sound, such as the thumb roll. Drums are the world's oldest and most ubiquitous musical instruments, and the basic design has remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years.

The Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement (DRUM) was an organization of African-American workers formed in May 1968 in the Chrysler Corporation's Hamtramck Assembly plant, formerly Dodge Main, Detroit, Michigan.

Die Kleine Trommel, Rührtrommel, Paradetrommel, Marschtrommel, Schnarrtrommel bzw. Snare oder Snare Drum ist eine beidseitig mit Fell bespannte Trommel mit Schnarrsaiten am Resonanzfell. Die Saiten bilden den Snareteppich.

Trommels zijn de grootste groep muziekinstrumenten binnen de membranofonen. Trommels bestaan doorgaans uit een ketel met een gespannen vel (membraan) over de boven- en soms ook onderkant. Het geluid wordt gecreëerd door op het membraan te slaan. Dit gebeurt met stokken of met handen. Vandaar de term slaginstrumenten. De trommel is binnen de muziek vrijwel altijd aanwezig. Denk hierbij aan fanfares, orkesten, combo's en aan pop- en rock-bands. Een drumband bestaat bijna uitsluitend uit trommels. Eigenlijk is de juiste benaming trom (dus zonder -mel), in meervoud trommen.
