An entrepôt or transshipment port is a port, city, or trading post where merchandise may be imported, stored or traded, usually to be exported again.These commercial cities spawned due the growth of long-distance trade. Such centers played a critical role in trade during the days of wind-powered shipping. In modern times customs areas have largely made such entrepôts obsolete, but the term is still used to refer to duty-free ports with a high volume of re-export trade. This type of port should not be confused with the modern French usage of the word , meaning warehouse.

Het woord entrepot is afkomstig uit het Frans en betekent een verzegelde opslagplaats, meestal een grote loods, een pakhuis of ook een koel- en vrieshuis, waar aangevoerde goederen uit het buitenland onder douanetoezicht opgeslagen worden waarvan de bestemming, met name verbruik in binnen- of buitenland, mogelijk nog niet vaststaat. De lading is entre of "tussen" herkomst en bestemming.

Un entrepôt est un bâtiment logistique destiné au stockage et à la distribution de biens. Les entrepôts sont utilisés par les industriels, les entreprises d'import-export, les grossistes, les transporteurs, les douanes, etc. Ce sont de grands bâtiments, depuis quelques centaines jusqu'à plusieurs dizaines de milliers de mètres carrés.
