In particle physics, a fermion (a name coined by Paul Dirac from the surname of Enrico Fermi) is any particle characterized by Fermi–Dirac statistics. These particles obey the Pauli exclusion principle. Fermions include all quarks and leptons, as well as any composite particle made of an odd number of these, such as all baryons and many atoms and nuclei. Fermions differ from bosons, which obey Bose–Einstein statistics.

Fermionen (benannt nach Enrico Fermi) sind im physikalischen Sinne alle Teilchen, die der Fermi-Dirac-Statistik genügen. Nach dem Spin-Statistik-Theorem besitzen sie einen halbzahligen Spin, also , etc. Anschaulich gesprochen sind Fermionen diejenigen Teilchen, aus denen die Materie besteht.

Un fermión, llamado así en honor al célebre científico italiano Enrico Fermi, es uno de los dos tipos básicos de partículas que existen en la naturaleza (el otro tipo son los bosones). Los fermiones se caracterizan por tener espín semi-entero (1/2, 3/2, ...). En el modelo estándar existen dos tipos de fermiones fundamentales, los quarks y los leptones. En el modelo estándar de física de partículas los fermiones se consideran los constituyentes básicos de la materia, que interactúan entre ellos vía bosones de gauge.

Een fermion (vernoemd naar Enrico Fermi) is een deeltje dat zich kenmerkt door een halftallige spin (s=1/2, s=3/2, s=5/2, ...). Dit in tegenstelling tot bosonen die altijd een heeltallige spin bezitten. Elk subatomair deeltje van het standaardmodel valt in te delen in één van deze twee soorten.
