flatfish

A flatfish is a member of the order Pleuronectiformes of ray-finned demersal fishes, also called the Heterosomata, sometimes classified as a suborder of Perciformes. In many species, both eyes lie on one side of the head, one or the other migrating through and around the head during development. Some species face their left sides upward, some face their right sides upward, and others face either side upward.

Die Plattfische (Pleuronectiformes) sind eine Ordnung der Echten Knochenfische (Teleostei), die durch ihren besonderen, an eine benthische Lebensweise auf dem Gewässergrund angepassten Körperbau auffällt. Ausgewachsene Plattfische sind seitlich stark abgeflacht und, da beide Augen auf derselben Körperseite liegen, asymmetrisch gebaut. Zu den Plattfischen zählen zahlreiche Speisefische wie Scholle, Stein- und Heilbutt, Flunder und Seezunge.

Platvissen (Pleuronectiformes) zijn een orde van vissoorten die op hun zijde op de bodem leven. De vis, die vaak onder het zand verscholen ligt, heeft vaak een zeer goede schutkleur.

Les Pleuronectiformes (également appelés Heterosomata ce qui signifie « aux côtés dissemblables ») ou poissons plats forment un ordre de poissons à nageoires rayonnées. Les plies, les soles, les flets, les flétans, cardeaux, limandes, turbots, les carlottins, barbues, les cardines sont, sauf exceptions, des poissons de ce groupe.
