A gonad or sex gland or reproductive gland is an endocrine gland that produces the gametes (germ cells) of an organism. In the female of the species the reproductive cells are the egg cells, and in the male the reproductive cells are the sperm. The male gonad, the testicle, produces sperm in the form of spermatozoa. The female gonad, the ovary, produces egg cells. Both of these gametes, are haploid germ cells.

Eine Gonade (aus griech. gone, ‚Geschlecht‘, ‚Erzeugung‘, ‚Same‘, und aden, ‚Drüse‘), auch Keimdrüse oder Geschlechtsdrüse genannt, ist jenes Geschlechtsorgan, in dem einige Sexualhormone und sämtliche Keimzellen (Gameten) gebildet werden.

De gonaden zijn bij dieren de organen die de geslachtscellen vormen. Ze staan ook bekend als de geslachtsklieren. Bij mannelijke dieren zijn dit de testes of zaadballen en bij de vrouwelijke dieren de eierstokken.

Une gonade est un organe animal destiné à la reproduction (un organe reproducteur). Les gonades vont par paire ; il s'agit des testicules chez le mâle et des ovaires chez la femelle ; elles jouent un rôle important au sein de l'appareil reproducteur, puisque c'est au niveau de ces organes que sont produites les cellules reproductrices c'est-à-dire les gamètes :

• mâles : les spermatozoïdes, par les testicules ;
• femelles : les ovules, par les ovaires.

Gonada, gruczoł płciowy, gruczoł rozrodczy – występujący u zwierząt narząd płciowy produkujący męskie bądź żeńskie komórki rozrodcze (gamety). Gonady umożliwiają rozmnażanie płciowe. U niektórych zwierząt występują samodzielnie (parzydełkowce, niektóre wirki), u pozostałych wchodzą w skład układu rozrodczego. Gonady żeńskie nazywane są jajnikami, a męskie – jądrami. U większości zwierząt gonady występują parzyście. Jedna gonada, najczęściej jajnik, spotykana jest u niektórych bezkręgowców oraz u ptaków. Koralowce i tasiemce wytwarzają większe ilości gonad.
