Graphite , archaically referred to as Plumbago, is a crystalline form of carbon, a semimetal, a native element mineral, and one of the allotropes of carbon. Graphite is the most stable form of carbon under standard conditions. Therefore, it is used in thermochemistry as the standard state for defining the heat of formation of carbon compounds. Graphite may be considered the highest grade of coal, just above anthracite and alternatively called meta-anthracite, although it is not normally used as fuel because it is difficult to ignite.

Graphite (auch SILGraphite, früher OpenGraphite) ist ein Projekt zur Erstellung eines Unicode-kompatiblen sogenannten „Smartfont“-Formates mit zugehörigem Software-System zur Verarbeitung, das von SIL International unter Leitung von Sharon Correll mit Unterstützung von der UNESCO entwickelt wird.

Der Graphit, nach neuer deutscher Rechtschreibung auch Grafit, ist ein sehr häufig vorkommendes Mineral aus der Mineralklasse der „Elemente“. Er ist eine der natürlichen Erscheinungsformen des chemischen Elements Kohlenstoff in Reinform und kristallisiert äußerlich gesehen im hexagonalen Kristallsystem (genaueres siehe Kristallstruktur).

Le graphite est une espèce minérale qui est, avec le diamant, la lonsdaléite et la chaoite, l'un des allotropes naturels du carbone. Sa formule chimique est « C » mais les formes natives permettent de retrouver des traces d'hydrogène (« H »), d'azote (« N »), d'oxygène (« O »), de silicium (« Si »), d'aluminium (« Al »), de fer (« Fe ») ou encore d'argile.
