Gymnastics is an activity involving the performance of exercises requiring strength, flexibility, balance and control. Internationally, all events are governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). Each country has its own national governing body (BIW) affiliated to FIG. Competitive artistic gymnastics is the best known of the gymnastic events. It typically involves the women's events of vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Men's events are floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and the high bar. Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the ancient Greeks that included skills for mounting and dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills.

Die Gymnastik (griechisch: γυμναστική [τέχνη] gymnastiké [téchnē] = „Gymnastik“; γυμνάζω gymnázo = „turnen“, „üben“, „schulen“; γυμνάσιον gymnásion = „Gymnasium“) ist die Kunst der Leibesübungen. Sie werden so genannt, weil derartige Übungen bei den Griechen nackt (γυμνός gymnós = „nackt“) ausgeführt wurden.

Gymnastiek is de verzamelnaam voor alle sporten die enigerlei vorm van acrobatiek in zich hebben. In Nederland behartigt de Koninklijke Nederlandse Gymnastiek Unie (KNGU) de belangen van al deze sporten en bepaalt ook de verdeling van het geld dat wordt gespendeerd aan de verschillende disciplines. In Vlaanderen gebeurt dit door de GymFed; op mondiaal niveau is dat de Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique.

La gymnastique (abrégée en « gym ») est un terme générique qui regroupe aujourd'hui des formes très diverses de disciplines sportives, pratiquées pour le loisir ou la compétition : gymnastique artistique, gymnastique rythmique, trampoline, gymnastique acrobatique, gymnastique aérobique, tumbling... Le terme est aussi appliqué à des formes d'activités dites gymniques, plus ou moins liées à la santé ou à la condition physique des personnes la pratiquant, telles que l'aquagym ou le fitness.

Gimnastyka (grec. γυμναστική' gymnastike trening sportowy od gymnos nagi) jest dyscypliną sportową, wywodzącą się ze starożytnej Grecji, w ramach której zawodnicy wykonują specjalne układy, z wykorzystaniem różnych sprzętów. Gimnastyka może być uprawiana zarówno przez kobiety, jak i mężczyzn.
