In organic chemistry, a hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon. Hydrocarbons from which one hydrogen atom has been removed are functional groups, called hydrocarbylsAromatic hydrocarbons (arenes), alkanesalkenescycloalkanes and alkyne-based compounds are different types of hydrocarbons.
